Our client, the private banking arm of a European institution, wished to take on a number of clients from central and eastern Europe. The bank was keen to ensure that there were no issues of criminality or impropriety in the background of its clients, in particular any unexplained sources of income.
We initiated a systematic screening process to examine the reputation and track record of all potential depositors. Our work identified a number of individuals as unsuitable, including several who were serving officers in government or responsible for public procurement.
